Trombone

Son of a large lumber family from Roanne, Matthias started playing Thelonious Monk music on a piano, while staying hidden under a wool hat. Then he began to play and improvise on the trombone joining orchestras such as Grotorkestre, la Baskour (a project he elaborated in 2002), les Arcandiers (folk marching band) and La Tribu Hérisson with Fanfare la Tulipe and l’Ogre.

Ever since 2003, most of his work is dedicated to improvisation. He founded the MICRO (Improvised Music in Roanne Côte) association, where he put his practice at stake by organizing various events in the Roanne countryside. He frequently works with dancers, painters, poets and even skate boarders, using different tools: trombone, bells, prepared keyboard, radios or odd settings.

An artist with potential from the young contemporary creation, he believes in authenticity, archaic abstraction and little things. He had the opportunity to meet, among others, l’ARFI, Li Ping Ting, Heddy Boubaker, David Chiesa, Luca Venitucci, Birgit Ulher, Paul Vogel, Axel Dörner… and the great honor to receive the influence of Jean Cohen, Sébastien Coste, Etienne Roche, the ISHTAR collective, Kafé Myzik and his brother.
